Ultimately. . . It’s All About The Biology

In the same way that plants can only be as healthy as the soil in which they grow, soil can only be as healthy and productive as the critical biological communities residing within the soil.

Occasionally, during construction or natural disasters, valuable, high quality soil may be lost.
However, the majority of soil damage arises as an unintended outcome of using materials that
limit, diminish or even destroy essential soil biology. When critical micro-organisms are absent
from the soil (or not functioning), the soil is essentially sterile, making it impossible to achieve
healthy plant growth or maintain a sustainable soil profile.

Brewed Compost Tea is one method of restoring these essential biological communities and
Nature’s Pro™ makes the top rated brewing system on the market, however, there are trade-offs
that must be considered. There are 3-4 truly positive benefits of using compost tea, but twice
that many drawbacks that must be considered to make an informed decision. We would be
happy to review the entire brewing process with you individually . . . just contact our office.

Bio-Soil Connect is one of the alternatives to brewed tea. It has soluble humates and kelp
extract combined with beneficial bacteria. It can be added to your application tank after
pre-mixing to assure maximum dissolution, but does not require any additional aeration,
specific pumps or plumbing. For optimal results it is recommended that the mixture
be used within 24 hours.

Bio-Soil Critters is a second alternative with many of the same characteristics as Bio-Soil Connect in regards to mixing and applying. However, Bio-Soil Critters has a more robust
biological content including several strains of mycorrhizae and nitrogen-fixing bacteria.

Important Information To Help Soil Biology Thrive

Remember, bacteria, fungi, Protozoa and all of the other “critters” in the soil are living, breathing systems. Yes, they’re microscopic, but just like you, they can only exist in an environment suited to their needs like having moisture, food sources and air. (This one is often over-looked.) Therefore, if biology is lacking in a soil it might be the result of hard, compacted soil (less air and moisture), improper pH level, high salts or chlorides or toxic residues from various chemical applications. Without understanding and addressing these issues, just adding more biology may only yield temporary benefits at best.

Prescription Soil Analysis can provide a more accurate picture of your soil using their unique, 19-point, nutrient-availability test which includes a detailed report and recommendations based on your specific soil type and plant species. This report is also the basis for creating a Soil Health Care program to literally “fix” the soil. By taking this more comprehensive, but natural and common sense approach to PHC, the soil profile will become what the plant(s) want as well as the soil biology. A Win - Win - Win for everyone and moving forward, the re-energized biological community will help sustain the desired soil profile. Humates is a term used to identify natural carbon-based materials which contain humic, fulvic, ulmic and other organic acids critical for plant growth and health. Leonardite is another term often used to label these deposits.

HUMATES

What Are They and Where Do They Come From?

Humates are the result of the complete decomposition of plant materials, greatly concentrated and compressed over centuries of time.

Since humates are derived from plant material, they provide a rich storehouse of energy and contains most everything the plants and soil needs to be healthy, including nutrients, enzymes, minerals, bio-stimulants, amino acids and essential compounds to support soil microbes and mycorrhizae.

HUMATES

In addition to all of these critical components, it is the high carbon content which might be the most important. Carbon literally supplies the energy to power the photosynthetic process, as well as other physiological processes within each plant. This explains why soils rich in organic matter are known to grow and sustain better plants which are also healthier and less costly to maintain.

There are leonardite deposits located throughout the world but there can be significant
differences between them which can make some deposits much more valuable for plant use
than others. Nature’s Pro only uses sources from dry, mountainous regions of North America
which employ vertical mining techniques rather than strip mining to ensure the end product has
a consistent quality.
